About Mudwater

What is Mudwater?

Mudwater is the swamp card game of the Bored Ape Yacht Club: a very old game played on the docks deep in the Everglades. The game is simple, the skill ceiling is high, and it is played for keeps.

It is a collection of 120 cards that you can hold physically or digitally, and a two-player card game you can play in the browser.

Who makes Mudwater?

Mudwater is part of the Bored Ape Yacht Club and is run by Yuga Labs for BAYC and MAYC holders. Orange Cap Games (OCAP) is the official publisher of the Mudwater TCG.

Its Terms of Service and Privacy Policy are Yuga Labs' own.

What is Swamp Origins?

Swamp Origins is the first Mudwater set: 120 cards across five rarities, in base, foil and serialized finishes. Browse every card, with its type, set, rarity and edge numbers, on the cards page.

Packs, booster boxes and cases

What's in a pack, a booster box and a case?

A pack holds 10 cards. A booster box holds 24 sealed packs, and a case holds 10 sealed booster boxes.

The supply is fixed: 10,000 booster boxes with 24 packs in each, 240,000 packs in total.

What are the rarities?

From most to least common: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Prestige and Legendary. Each card also comes in a finish: base, foil or serialized.

What are serialized cards?

Serialized cards are numbered editions, shown as #N of the run. The rarer the card, the shorter the run, down to eight serialized cracked ice 1/1s, the rarest of the rare.

Are the cards physical or digital?

Both. Every digital Mudwater item is a Solana NFT, backed by a printed card held in a vault. Redemption between the two is on its way: see Physical cards.

What are Totems?

Totems are how apes claim their packs. They live on Ethereum as ERC-6551 tokens, one tied to each ape. They are soulbound to the ape: they belong to the ape, not the wallet, and can't be bought, sold or traded on their own. Whoever holds the ape can claim its packs.

Claiming burns the Totem on Ethereum, and in return the Mudwater packs arrive at your Solana address.

Claiming packs

Who can claim free packs?

Bored Ape and Mutant Ape holders. Each Bored Ape claims 10 packs and each Mutant Ape claims 2, for more than 140,000 claimable packs in total.

Did ApeFest attendees get anything?

Yes. Every ApeFest attendee received one free sealed booster box.

How do I claim?

Go to Claim, connect the Ethereum wallet that holds your apes, then connect the Solana wallet that should receive the packs. Claiming burns your apes' Totems on Ethereum and sends the packs to that Solana address, where they show up in Inventory.

If your apes sit in a vault, connect a wallet delegated through delegate.xyz instead.

Does claiming cost anything?

The packs are free. You pay Ethereum gas and a Chainlink CCIP fee in ETH to carry them to Solana. Any unused part of that fee can be withdrawn later under Unused network fees.

How long does a claim take?

Packs can take around 20 minutes to land in your Solana wallet. You don't need to keep the page open.

Is there a deadline?

Yes. Claim before 19 January 2027, 00:00 UTC. After that, unclaimed packs return to the project's treasury. Packs you have already claimed are unaffected and stay in your Inventory.

Opening packs

What does ripping a pack mean?

Ripping opens a sealed pack: the pack is burned and its ten cards are yours. Head to Rip, choose your packs and slide to rip.

Does opening a pack cost anything?

Yes. Ripping costs 8 USDC per pack, paid on Solana from your Solana wallet, so you need USDC there first. The fee is shown before you confirm.

Can I undo a rip?

No. Ripping can't be undone, and an opened pack can no longer be redeemed sealed. If a rip fails, nothing is burned or charged.

When do my cards arrive?

Right after you rip, your cards are revealed and then delivered to your wallet over the next few minutes. You can close the page while they land, and share an image of your pulls.

Inventory and trading

Where do I see my collection?

Inventory shows your packs, booster boxes, cases and cards, as a grid or as a binder with your set completion. You can filter by rarity, finish and type, or search by name, type or serial. Newly arrived items can take a moment to index.

Can I send an item to another wallet?

Yes. From Inventory you can send an item to any Solana wallet address. Sending needs a little SOL for the network fee.

Where can I buy or sell Mudwater?

OpenSea is the preferred marketplace for Mudwater secondary trading. Use the official collections: Packs, Boxes, Cases and Cards. Totems are soulbound to their ape, so they can't be traded.

Are there fees on trades?

Secondary trades carry a 2.5% royalty. 20% of that royalty is distributed back to holders through $APE Reflections.

Combine

What is Combine?

Combine turns 24 sealed packs into 1 sealed booster box, or 10 sealed booster boxes into 1 sealed case, and back again. Everything stays sealed the whole way.

Does combining cost anything?

No. There is no fee to combine, in either direction.

What if a combine doesn't finish?

Your originals are safe. Items in a combine are held in escrow, and you can return them from Activity whenever you like.

Physical cards

Can I get the printed card?

Redemption is coming soon. Redeem a token and the printed card is pulled from the warehouse and mailed to you. Send a printed card in and, once it's verified, it comes back as a token.

Wallets and accounts

Which wallets do I need?

Two, for claiming: the Ethereum wallet that holds your apes (MetaMask, Rainbow, Coinbase Wallet, Ledger or any WalletConnect wallet), only for ape eligibility and pack claims, and a Solana wallet such as Phantom, Solflare or Backpack, which holds your packs and cards.

Everything after the claim (ripping, Inventory, Combine, building decks and the game) happens with the Solana wallet.

Do I need to sign in with Glyph?

No. Connect your Solana wallet to claim, rip, combine and build decks. Signing in with Glyph (the account you use for Otherside or BAYC.com) is optional. It lets you link your Solana wallets, see the cards in all your linked wallets in one Binder, and keep your game profile and decks on every device.

To use a card from a linked wallet, you connect that wallet and approve in Phantom, Solflare or Brave.

Will Mudwater ever ask for my seed phrase?

Never. Mudwater never asks for or collects your private keys or seed phrase. Anyone who does is not us.

The game

How do you play?

Two players, nine slots. Each card has a number on each of its four edges. When cards touch, the higher number wins the slot. Ties hold, there are no chains, and rocks are safe. Whoever holds the most slots at the end wins.

Each hand is 14 different cards, kept hidden. One is drawn as the ante and you play 13. The winner takes the loser's ante for keeps.

The full guide is on How to play, and the rules booklet covers everything else.

Where can I play, and against whom?

In the browser, on any device. Play the Oracle (Easy, Normal or Hard), find an opponent through matchmaking, or invite a friend with a code or a link. New players can start with Learn to play.

Mudwater is also live at the tables in Otherside: walk up to another ape and sit down. You play with demo cards today; your onchain cards come to the table soon.

Do I need cards to play?

No. Anyone can play as a guest. Sign in with your Solana wallet to get a rating and a place on the leaderboard.

How do I unlock foils in the game?

Wins against the Hard Oracle unlock foil art, level by level, once your wallet holds a Mudwater pack or card. Foils are art only: every number on the card stays the same.

Help and safety

How do I get help or reach the community?

The official BAYC Discord is also Mudwater's Discord. Find it, and the club's other channels, on the BAYC socials page.

Who can use Mudwater?

Mudwater isn't available to restricted persons or in sanctioned regions. The Terms of Service have the full details.
